How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.

Fantastic hotel, added to our experience in Kyoto. Super clean, great room layout, SPA was lovely. Its also very well situated, which made getting around easy. Loved our stay!

The onsen wasn’t as great as some of the other places we have stayed in Japan. But the main issue was the location as it was a minimum 10 minute walk to any meaningfully useful station line. That might not sound like a lot but in the heat it really wasn’t great. It also meant we ended up walking everywhere because we would have had to walk 10 mins, catch a train and then walk another 7 minutes - when the whole distance could be covered in a 25 minute walk. So there was a lot of walking in the heat.
Nice room with comfortable beds and bathroom. The hotel entrance is swish and they had a Maika dance exhibit in the evening.

Being charged to sit at the bar when the signer was performing, felt being a resident that this was not appropriate.

When I arrived there was a used menstrual pad in the trash can in my bathroom. This was not good.
Pleasant property with great buffet breakfast. Very nice public bath. I really loved the bath. Very nice amenities like toiletries. Very generous with the toiletries. Convenient location to the train station. Easy commute to attractions.

The restaurant was not impressive.
What a nice hotel! Beautiful from the foyer to the outdoor garden in the middle of the building to the rooms and onsen. Every thing was done to make the Guests feel welcome and in total luxury.

I would not recommend to get the message they offer. It’s personal that does not belong to the hotel, but are organized by the hotel. Our massage therapist was on the phone during the massage and it was not enjoyable
One of my favorite hotels we stayed at! Room was spacious for Japanese hotels and it was very clean.

The key card to turn on electricity in room stumped us for a sec but it’s all good.
Great location, very nice and stylish. Staff was super friendly. Breakfast was great and had some nice variety. Very comfortable stay.

The stairs were not accessible and the doors to them were locked. When the elevator broke down late at night we had to wait 40 minutes before being allowed to use the stairs. The staffs explanation for not letting us use them was: "They were safe for going down in case of fire, but not safe for going up"???
Very good value for money, close to central area, 10 minutes Maika show for free, spacious room, good bed, good aircon and lots of amenities

Rooms are small, which is normal for Japan.
Very friendly staff, hair straightener and curling iron for rent 😍. Lovely reception area. The hotel is quite close to public transport.

Close by to really nice boutiques and walking distance to some of the temples and riverside restaurants. Very silent. There is a nice bakery close by. Also, the Hotel has breakfast, lunch, dinner options and a active restaurant with several entertainments like jazz night etc. Metro station is just in the corner. It has an onsen for ladies in the Hotel. Really easy to enjoy!

The Lobby and bar weer freezing cold: the airco was way to hard on, which results that nobody hangs out at the Beautiful bar. Life Music, great! But too cold to be able to enjoy

Only downside was lack of drinking water available. It was ranging from 30-35 degrees a day so it would be great if there were water fountains available to guests throughout the hotel. We had to ask at the bar each day!
Perfect hotel! The hotel was comfortable, well located and full of life and vigour. The public spa downstairs was amazing and our room was quintessentially Japanese.

In the vicinity of a metro and subway station, easy access from bus stops, close to the shopping passage, and some tourist attractions. Breakfast was nice and had a variety; however, the timing for the breakfast was not the best, it ended at 9:30. Spa and specific shows at the lobby (Maiko show) were nice additions to the hotel services.
