Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

CanadaYou are not allowed to eat outside food in the hotel, despite a cafe that is unused in the evenings and a lounge with available tables. One night we walked around the Gion area and picked up a bunch of delicious snacks to sample. There are some tables set up in the lobby (outside of the dining area) where guests are welcome to hang out. We started opening up our snacks when we were approached by a staff member who said we could not eat at the tables. As we were packing up, he also said we cannot eat in our rooms. We asked him where we could eat as it is frowned upon to eat on the streets and it was only a few degrees out. He said we should go to the Family Mart across the street to eat. However, we did not purchase our snacks from there, so we thought that would be unacceptable. We ended up going to my sister's hotel a couple blocks away where the lobby has a shared space and welcomes you to bring your own food. As a result, the other hotel was a more pleasant, lively space with plenty of people quietly enjoying each others company. I would not recommend this hotel as a big part of the Japan experience is the food and lots of places don't have seating (i.e., dessert places that sell mochi or little snack shops) so returning to our hotel made sense to us. I understand and value cultural differences, such as cleanliness, but I also think it is an inappropriate policy for a hotel to restrict eating in their empty cafe and empty lounge. Being unavailable for the comfort of your guests & asking your guests to leave the hotel to eat is not reasonable. Otherwise we found it fine, convenient and well situated to enjoy Kyoto; therefore, I hope they change their policies regarding eating. I would rather be asked to remain tidy than to leave my hotel to eat.
The hotel is clean and modern. The rooms were a good size especially compared to hotels we stayed at in Tokyo and Sapporo. The location was great. It was easy walking to shops, restaurants, and the subway. Plus there was a gym just across the street, which was important for us.

EgyptI wanted to pay in cash as I already have the money, paying with a credit card adds fees. They said they don’t accept cash they only accept card payment which would have been helpful if I was informed prior to the reservation. Also the windows are locked so there is no ventillation in the room at all.

MalaysiaIt wasn’t clean, the bidet in the first room didn’t work, the vent hood in the bathroom was awfully dirty. Then I took shower and whole bathroom got flooded so they moved us to another room which was a bit cleaner and the vent was finally clean too. And bidet worked. Also the space of the room is weirdly used - you only have a tiny desk but a pretty big sofa. Why is that? That’s extremely inconvenient and you’d better put a normal desk and got rid of the sofa. The hair fans were dusty in both rooms.
Breakfasts were good, felt authentic, thanks to the woman making onigiri, they were great.

IrelandStaff English is very very basic it was hard to communicate. Matress are extremely hard feels like you lying on the ground. Breakfast exists but if you are not Japanise you won't find nothing in europenian style. When I came to hotel after whole day sightseeing and I bot a snack In Familymart next to the hotel and I want to sit at the table in lobby to eat it, staff told me that I can't use hotel table in lobby to eat. They told me that I can eat outside. I leave this without comment.
Hotel in it self is normal Japanise standard. Rooms not to big but well equipped.

United StatesThey were not able to send our bag to Osaka. We have been sending it easily from other accommodations and did not expect it. They said we need to go to transport company and send from there but failed to explain how to find this company. We struggled to find it, lost lots of time, missed our train. That spoiled the whole impression about hotel.

AustraliaThere was very poor ventilation in our room and bathroom. It constantly smelt damp in the room from the moment we first walked in even after leaving the window open and we both left unwell upon leaving which we think may be due to the effects of the humidity building up in the room.
The property itself was very welcoming and professional throughout the foyer and the building itself. It offered amenities such as a washing machine and dinner and it was in a convenient location.

JapanThe room was offensively dirty. The carpet and walls were dirty. There were huge balls of dust along the walls and window ledges. The worst part was the fingernail clippings and boogers that were left on the window sill 🤢 . There were also some sort of unidentifiable crumbs left in the bed.
The location and breakfast were great. The lobby and staff were nice.
