Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

CanadaWe didn't really have any complaints. Only minor comment was that the room felt a bit small for amount paid, but that was also expected of general hotel room sizing in Japan.
Hotel was close to the station, easy to drop off baggage before checkin, checkin was very smooth, we appreciated the tour of amenities. My husband and I used the private onsen at least 5 or 6 times during our 2 night stay, it was perfect for relaxing from the hours of walking during the day. Overall I don't have any complaints and loved our stay. The rooftop lounge and welcome drink are a very nice perk as well. The price was not cheap but that was expected from a private onsen hotel.

United StatesIncredible location, comfortable beds and absolutely beautiful room and amenities. We had a room with a private onsen and balcony- it made our stay very luxurious. The rooftop door bath was appreciated in the mornings while we drank our coffee and during happy hour after a day of sightseeing. The hotel service was exceptional- everyone went out of their way to make sure we were well taken care of. Highly recommend!!

United KingdomCan’t really think of anything to complain about.
The whole hotel feels very modern. The room was beautiful and much better than the pictures on the site indicate. Everything is immaculately clean and well catered for. The beds are very comfortable. The public baths are extremely large and well laid out. The staff were incredibly helpful and friendly. The delicious Japanese breakfast is like a work of art. Roof terrace bar with foot bath, what’s not to love.

We had a lovely stay at the hotel. We booked private onsen rooms. They are spacious and clean. Japanese style breakfast was excellent and free mini bar was a bonus. The hotel is very close to shopping areas, restaurants and public transport. Staffs are really helpful and polite. We’ll come back if visiting Kyoto again!

AustraliaIt’s only minor. It was not a big issue. However, There was no view from our private onsen because our room is located on the ground floor.
Everything. From the moment you stepped into their reception which is on the 9th floor. The view from there was immaculate with Kyoto city, temples and shrines. The best part of it was the private Yunohana onsen right behind your bettei room. Immersed yourself in private onsen all to yourself every day at the end of the night prior to retire to bed. Or a little dip in early in the morning before starting your day - AMAZING!! My husband and I chose to stay in Bettei which is separate from others. Very quiet and has your own private back door to nostalgic alley of ‘Gion’ vibes. If that’s not enough, wait till you get to their rooftop bar and foot hot spring. They have gas heater too on the rooftop in case you’re cold. Besides all that, make sure you choose to have in house Japanese breakfast - Kaiseki. If you can’t afford to pay for a private onsen in your stay. No problem they have public one too except you have to respect their rules and Onsen etiquette. Moreover, the hotel actually refilled your snacks and drinks even though my husband and I hardly drink alcohol.

United StatesNo gym.
Very peaceful and quiet vibe, right in the heart of Kyoto. The guest room, private onsen, and public onsen are all completely lovely. The chef makes an extraordinary Japanese breakfast of fish and vegetables, and they made a very special effort to accommodate my needs as a vegetarian. Staff are kind and helpful. The laundry facilities work well. My mother and I stayed here together and loved every minute. Be sure to check out the health food store and cafe in the hotel across the street.

ChinaBreakfast need to be reserved 3 days in advance, booking.com’s “breakfast included” option does not count as an observation. We were not informed of this prior to our stay so we ended up without breakfast for the two mornings we were there.
Small but very cosy, has everything you need, absolutely well designed interior space — especially the toilet. The private onsen is a plus point, definitely made the high cost more worthy although still a bit pricey. There’s also a convenient and beautiful back entrance leading to the alleyway that takes you to Kiyamachi-dori and also the Gion district easily.

JapanThe only thing I could say is I wish there was breakfast available at an extra cost. I don’t like booking breakfast because I travel alone and the price usually includes two people. I pay separately at hotels. But this hotel didn’t allow me to do that and said I need to book way in advance for breakfast. I was unaware of this beforehand and thought I saw the price of breakfast while booking so couldn’t imagine there would be an issue. Oh well! There are other options but sometimes it’s just nice to eat before you go out
The location and amenities at the hotel was wonderful. I enjoyed the hotspring in the room but liked the outdoor one even more. The rooftop terrace with the footpath was also so unique and a great way to unwind after a day out. I loved the uniqueness of the hotel!

Room is spotless, everything is very new. Wooden floor and tatami near the bed. Complimentary mini bar to enjoy with private onsen is great experience. Underfloor heating in bathroom so it's very warm even in winter. Room is next to the elevator but soundproofing is excellent, cannot hear a thing from outside. Breakfast is delicious.

FranceNothing really. I just wished I stayed a little bit longer (more than one night) to make use of all the superb facilities of the hotel (onsen with city view, rooftop bar etc.) So the only negative is that there are too many good things to experiment ! Take your time to enjoy all of them !
Everything was sensational. From the very start at the checkin-in, were I was wqelcomed with some typical japanese sweets and matcha. I received a small tour of the hotel. About the room, it was a delightful experfience. Everything mixed the modernity of japanese culture to the tradition with a private onsen. Everything was comfortable, the clothes that accompanied the trip were extremely comfortable too, Like the bathrobe and the pajamas. The minibar being free with multiple choices was very positive. Overall perfect experience.

SingaporeNothing at all. Just that our stay was too short!
It was clean and well furbished. Location was great where we could find food easily. When we arrived at the hotel, we were pleased with the level of security that the hotel provided. The staff there was also very welcoming. My husband and I were greeted warmly right on the onset when we reached the lobby during check in. Their staff patiently went through all the facilities in the hotel and even walked us through each aspect of the room. We were impressed with the level of hospitality we received.
