Each review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive info (e.g. emails, phone numbers, credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence

To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.

It was great I liked mostly everything. Bathroom was a bit small for two people but we were fine
Big room, very comfy bedding, gave us the traditional ryokan experience we loved it. It was clean and quiet, the river beside it was nice, yum breakfast everyday.

The air conditioner was lacking whereby the room was a bit warm throughout the night. The hairdryer was very extremely weak which made it very very difficult to dry our hair.
It was clean, the vibes were very good. The smell of wood when you enter the ryokan gives a sense of tranquility.

There is no negative point
The property is located the cutest street in Kyoto. The hotel is traditional Japanese Ryokan. We loved so much the location (walked everywhere) and stuff ( they are so friendly)

The carpet in the main halls and stairs should be replaced as they appear very worn. Would have been nice to be able to sit on the deck at any time as the deck and view are beautiful.

Wish we could have stayed longer, it books up fast.

Run down. AC didn’t work great, we were hot. Husband really needed a regular chair to sit in for his back. Lady serving breakfast was a little rude.
Front desk staff very friendly and accommodating. Gorgeous view. Pretty room. Good breakfast.

All was perfect
Everything. Especially the lady at the counter, I had lost my passport, and she helped me calling the police and my next hotels to coordinate the recovery of the passport (it was found by the police). She really helped us out, and thanks to her I was able to recover it. Many many thanks.

We were 3 in one room, so once the bedding is laid out it was a bit tight. The hair dryer had hot air but it wasn't blowing so it was not that helpful for drying in a hurry.
If you're looking for a traditional stay experience, Tazuru is great at a reasonable price for a short stay. There was a rest area in the room off the tatami with chairs and a table that was a nice break from sitting on the floor. Breakfast was pretty great as it was a Japanese style that was offered (must book in advance). For a ryokan experience, it definitely met my expectations. It even had an elevator!

The Roman was of good size but a bit of renovation / refreshment ( paintings on the walls, carpets , electric appliance …. ) would be a good idea

The location is fantastic, right in front of the sakuras. It is also close to the main streets. The rooms are big, but some might find sleeping on the futon not the best, but that's a personal preference. The staff were welcoming and kind. Overall, it's a good place.

Everything about the hotel was exceptional.
The location of the hotel was brilliant, the staff were extremely friendly and helpful and the room was super clean. Even though the Onsen is no longer open, the hotel is great value for money. The breakfast was exceptional and it was different every day. Definitely recommended!

The ryokan/hotel tazuru is very centrally placed. The room was comfortable and spacious (something rare in Japan). We found in the room complimentary green tea, two yukatas and the bathroom kit. I really like the bath where to have a relaxing moment after a long day journey. The structure offers luggage shipping service but not that one of the laundry.

Lacked common an onsen, which at the price point should have been included. Also you have pay for breakfast which could be included.
Great location and large room. The value for the room was also excellent. Also the staff was attentive and able to get us settled in. If you looking for a traditional style Japanese room it's great.

Pillows were a challenge but it’s a traditional Japanese ryokan so go figure. If you like a soft western style pillow, bring your own. Ryokan pillows are a bit like bean bags filled with walnut shells- not exactly downy. On the plus side, this meant there was no chance of us oversleeping 😎
Location is excellent. Kyoto downtown (Gion) is in easy reach. Lots of eateries, cultural stuff and shopping.
