How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.

No water fountain. Could hear through the walls a little.
Convenient location with breakfast nearby. The shower rooms are very clean.

Nothing much. Just remember to bring your cards for tapping the lift, the toilet, and your room.
It is small but it is comfortable and value for money. We have our own space and privacy for a very reasonable price. Shower room is not open-concept but in cubicles. Futon was comfortable, and the staff was attentive and gave us additional pillows on the second day after we requested for more pillows.

Nothing to complain. The room was a bit small for 2.
Everything you need was available: hair dryer, washing machines, city information, money exchange with good rate, drink machine, soap, shampoo, towels, slippers, pyjama, tooth brush... and a nice breakfast place just few seconds walk away. The room was super clean and futon was comfy.

The rooms were great could fit.4 people in each and were nice and clean. The hotel was in a really good location right by the metro and some restaurants to eat at. Was amazing value for money.

Bit of a walk to river and bridge which starts old Kyoto part

I have booked this hostel for the 4th time now. And everytime I am amazed by how comfortable it is. It is right between the Kyoto Main Station and Kawaramachi/Teramachi making every place easily accessible by foot. It also has a subway station right on front of the door. Everything is clean an modern. Of course the single rooms are a bit small, which is expected and normal in Japan. If you travel alone and want a little more space, book a twin room for only a few bucks more. This is easily the best hostel you can get for that amount of money. If you are like me and use your hotel only to sleep and take a shower - this is exactly what you need. 10/10 recommended.

The coin laundry had a combined washing machine and dryer and the dryer function was not very effective. It took a long time for clothes to dry.
The Pocket Hotel was very clean and comfortable. The shower area was very well-designed with hooks, shelves and a small basket to store items so that it was easy to access items and nothing got wet. The bedroom was surprisingly large for what we were used to in Japan and there was space under the bed to store personal items.

Seriously not too much i didn’t like…maybe that there was no coffee supplied, only hot water. Same with breakfast. I really need my morning coffee 😫
Private and quiet, could store my luggage free on day of check out, use the lounge, wifi, bathroom and microwave until i caught my bus at 10.45pm. Breakfast was healthy and tasty. Train exit directly outside hotel.

The room is such a good size! You can hide your bags under the wooden frame. The beds were so cozy, it was not our first time on a futon so we were not surprised 😉 so don’t be afraid trying it out! The bathroom was the best separated bathroom i ever experienced!! The women who stay use their room card to access the toilets and all the showers are on a woman only floor! To get cash out, there is an atm across the street. You can stay on foot and walk around easily or use the metro right in front! Warning tho the metro’s lift is across the street!

If you put pocket hotel in the map , it will take you to completely different place !!!! 16 mins walk then I reached to the correct one. So my advice is just copy paste the location form booking!!! They should be aware of this ?! And they should warn people about the exact address! All of we tent to have same mistake, and the other pocket put a note that mentioned it’s not the pocket Kyoto karasuma etc , which shows so many people did same mistake !!!

The location is very close to a Subway Station Gate, and to nice restaurants and other services. The building is clean, and the corridors for the rooms are quiet. There is an app that allows you to know the availability of showers, since this area is located on a single floor.
