Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

ArgentinaI couldn't go to the public bath because I have tattoos. I knew that beforehand so I booked a room with a private onsen.
Great Ryokan, the personell was very nice. They even gave me medicine when I got sick and have Ta-q-bin service from hotel to hotel. I really enjoyed my private onsen.

AustraliaThere is no elevator, so we have to carry 4 big suitcases up and down the stairs without any help, which was a pain as we were exhausted from all the travelling. There is no space in the room for storage, so if you are travelling multiple cities and have lots of stuff like us, you might want to consider another place. The private tub inside the room is lovely, but the bathroom and toilet design is not that practical. Basically, you can freeze to death when brushing your teeth at the sink area outside of the heated sleeping space inside. I've stayed in multiple properties in Japan, but this one seems to have the lowest practicality in terms of room design and storage space. P/s: The staff's English is not that good, so communication is quite challenging, lucky one of us can speak Japanese.
The breakfast and dinner included in the rate is absolutely amazing. Absolutely love the sashimi and small bowls to go with rice. You can enjoy different traditional Japanese food every day. I was lucky enough to have the public bath all to myself, and it was a wonderful experience. The staff are all lovely and courtesy, they make sure to make you feel cared for as much as possible. We arrived quite late for dinner on our 1st day, but they still stay back a few minutes for us. The location is convenient, too, right next to a Family Mart and a bus stop!!!

Big room with TV area, big shower area with indoor onsen. There’s also a balcony with great views of the city. The room has almost everything one will need, including coffee machine, all toiletries, even allow connection to Netflix, Hulu, YouTube, etc on the TV.

CanadaThe hotel is right in front of the main road, and the room that I got was facing the road so it can get a bit noisy when large vehicles pass by. The bed was a bit too firm for me.
I loved the dinner and breakfast menus. Each time it was different, and I loved each set. It was a bit hard to get to, but at the same time that's also made it great as you can easily relax, away from touristy spots. The bus stop is almost in front of the hotel, so it's not bad, but it will take about an hour to get from Odawara Station to the hotel by bus. It's close to Lake Ashi (one bus ride away), so if you need to go sightseeing (Hakone Cruise), it's not to far.

CanadaI wished the breakfast hours were longer, like when I wished to leave earlier for an excursion or sleep in and chill. Or maybe I should've had that option in a box to enjoy any time. The 7 - 9 am was quite hard to deal with for a vacation given that a lot of attractions closed by 4 or 5. The breakfast was so good I would hate to miss it.
The food was amazing and Japanese bed surprisingly comfortable. I liked the onsen except for the strong sulfur smell in the indoor onsen (though you stop smelling it rather quickly). Staff was kind.

E V E R Y T H I N G It was absolutely perfect. Superb food, marvellous private and public onsen, plenty of complementary amenities (drinks, food, lotions, Yukata, games ... you name it), great view from our room. I liked the service most that was, even for Japanese standard, astonishing. I highly recommend asking for a room on the 2nd floor. まことにありがとうございました to the entire team that made this great stay possible.

United StatesIf you have limited time and need to fly out or/and to take shinkansen to other cities… this location is a bit far to get to the station. You can take local bus to attractions. But it is not as convenient as you staying in hakone-yumoto area.
This hotel is located in village at higher elevation of Hakone. So it will give you very quiet and serene atmosphere which will be perfect for private outdoor onsen with trees/mountain view. They give you unlimited water/ocha/lemon sour drink that you can pick up anytime you want. Kind staff and well equipped for non-japanese customers.

Great location, a little in the woods, but fine if you had a car. Nice and quiet for some R&R, and great food in the restaurant. Really enjoyed small little onsen in the room, piping hot water and the view was really nice! Appreciated the amenities and we did take a lot of green tea back to our room. :)

We were very pleasantly surprised by (and excited about!) the beautiful and complex meals we were treated to during our stay. Breakfast and dinner were both excellent, beautifully prepared and presented. We stayed in a room with private onsen with a great mountain view. So relaxing, pleasant, and peaceful. Would definitely recommend for other tattooed Travelers as you are able to enjoy a really great private onsen experience in a comfortable setting, alongside great rooms & service. For accessing the location, it was actually really easy. Take the train to Odawara, and then the bus from Odawara station will take you right to the hotel. The staff at the Station and on Bus were happy to make sure we were getting off at the right stop as well for those who are a bit nervous.

IrelandThis place was fantastic across the board. The staff were extremely helpful from the moment we got here, immediately explaining how to use the conveniently nearby bus route as well as taking our bags to our room for us. The included meals - breakfast and dinner were absolutely delicious, as were the complimentary drinks. The room was spacious and comfortable, with the star of the show being the in delightful in-room onsen, which its a bit hard to tell from the pictures but was easily big enough to comfortably fit two fairly tall adults.
