From the moment we arrived the staff were exceptionally kind and welcoming. We booked a room with a private onsen and it was such a luxurious and restful experience to be in such a quiet, peaceful place after a lot of hectic travel in big cities. The meals were some of the best we’ve ever tasted, a really enjoyable dining experience where we got to try so many different foods and flavors in one meal, all very artfully combined and the staff was helpful in explaining to us how long to let the ingredients cook in the hot pot and how to combine with sauces and other dishes on the table. After a blissfully relaxing rest in our room, the next day we enjoyed the wonderful nourishing breakfast with lots of fresh ingredients, and the staff were kind enough to give us a ride to the open air museum so we would have enough time to visit both there and the lake. They held our bags for us while we did sightseeing and made sure we got on the right buses to our next destination. Can’t recommend this place more highly, it is a trek to get there so make sure to plan enough time for transportation, but this distance can be a benefit, especially if you are wanting to experience a more rural side of Japan away from bigger cities but with still plenty of attractions and things to do, in beautiful nature.

Pity that check-out time is at 10am and doesn’t allow a last morning treat, could be 12.00.

Great room and private spa, a super experience, great dinner!

We got the room with the private onsen and it was amazing. The room itself was cozy but the best part was the private outdoor onsen. Just relaxing in your own onsen after a long day was such a great experience!

One of the best stays I had on my entire trip to Japan Tatami mats and private onsen facilities in room were great and gave the stay an luxury but authentic japanese experience. There were yukata / traditional robes and socks provided as well as woven baskets holding towels / bathing accessories The staff were lovely, I was very pleasantly greeted at reception on the first day with green tea and a small traditional sweet while our check-in forms were arranged (this was well received by us being very tired from the day). The included dinner and breakfast were delicious and beautifully presented. The bed and room were very comfortable. Hotel is conveniently near bus stops for a number of theHakone Tozan bus lines connected to key sites / attractions in Hakone We used the luggage forwarding/delivery service at Hakone Yumoto to and from the hotel. We would recommend this for anyone who is travelling with a suitcase. The luggage was neatly in our room when we arrived and easy to send back when we checked out!

It was a pricey stay and not sure if it was because it was over the holidays but if you don’t go over new years it’s almost 1/3 - 1/2 the price.

It was a nice traditionally building. The room was a decent size and we had a private onsen which was amazing. They have a shuttle bus which takes you back and forth from Gora station which is convenient and the bus stop is located right in front. The dinner and breakfast was amazing. They also provided yukatas which many people wore to dinner. Overall it was a great stay.

The water temperature of the lady's public bath was a bit low. Plus, although we did enjoy our dinner and breakfast, It would have been better if we were given more explanation about the dishes.

I liked the condition of the room and beddings. It was very clean.

Nothing, it was a great stay.

There's a bus stop literally on the doorstep. The room was superb. It felt like I was surrounded in luxury. I stayed in one of the annex rooms with my own onsen, and it was exactly what I needed to relax and enjoy a good soak after a long week. the kaiseki dinner and breakfast were amazing. The staff tried their utmost to explain everything in an understandable manner, and they had some English-speaking staff too. 10/10, would come back again.

Tranquil and Beautiful Traditional Onsen Hotel with great food, great service and spacious villas

I'm rather tall, and it's easy to smack your head into the low door posts, lights etc. Hence when tall, ensure to walk through the villa with your head bent down ;-)

Beautiful traditional Japanese Onsen Hotel with separate villas in a very nice garden setting. Dinner and breakfast are traditional Japanese meals in a private dining room and are really nice. Very friendly service and accommodating staff complement the whole. Of course the villas are nice and spacious (we are a family of 4) and the private onsen with inside and outside hot bath are a treat. Especially since we had around freezing temperatures, the outside hot bath gave the special temperature shock experience. A really great experience

We stay in villa so it's a bit far away from the main building need to walk to main building for dinner. I which we can have dinner and breakfast at our room as it is very big space prepared for the meal already. It will be a bit struggle if it's rain but the ryokan prepared boots for us in case there's rain so good enough

Very great experience here in a 140+ years old Ryokan. Very luxurious view and room. The room is very big the onsen is superb can't be more pleased The bed is very comfy. Best amenities, we even bought the shampoo home from the souvenir store. All the goods they use is premium

As with all onsens/ryokans in the area it is on the pricier side however given the dinner and breakfast we got I think it was worth it.

The service was amazing and the private onsen we had was so relaxing. We also loved the dinner and breakfast food, they catered to my dietary needs (I can't eat dairy and eggs) and everything was delicious.

Nothing much to say we didnt like. Asides maybe shuttle service can come more often, but we took the bus it wasn't hard at all.

The staff tries to speak English to accommodate us. Most can speak the minimal, but the gesture is there. We appreciate that alot. The scenery was beautiful. Our room was comfy, beautiful private onsen, room can fit everything and comfy. Provided all necessities needed. Food was TRIPLE A, beyond amazing. Breakfast was very hearty. Presentation of food was amazing, staff explains everything very well. Really love the service here.

Not too much to complain about, my friend found a few dead bugs but that wasn't much of an issue.

Great food, location, private onsen, and staff! We felt very welcomed at the ryokan. I would definitely recommend going here. The shuttle service from Gora station was awesome to have since the ryokan is a bit a ways from the station

    Nothing

The staffs seemed very resolute in giving us a relaxing experience during our stay. They are welcoming and very helpful. The only reason this review is a 9 was that during dinner we got Hot Pot as dinner and we did not know how exactly it was done. We did not get any instructions about the paste and other condiments that we should have put in the pot, and therefore for half our meal, our Hot Pot did not have enough taste. It was otherwise an enjoyble experience. The breakfast on the other hand was perfect, for me, who eats fish and enjoy seaweed soup. The green tea served with it was my favorite. My husband didnt like fish but he also thinks that it was a good meal, for what it was.
