Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

ItalyThere was a lot of hair everywhere in the room and many dirty stains on the carpets. I've never seen anyone in the reception to ask for toilet paper or similar.
Position and bathroom.

United Kingdom"Hotel Shu" is a very misleading name. We only stay in hotels for reassurance of being able to check in and get support around the clock. Luckily getting the key was easy and we didn't need to contact anyone during our stay, but we definitely wouldn't have booked if we'd have known it's basically an Airbnb from the perspective of no staff and self-service check in.
Very good location near a 7/11, a great base for exploring Tokyo. We thought the apartment was small at first until we completed our other stays and realised this was actually quite generous in size by budget Japanese accommodation standards. It certainly isn't luxurious but it feels quite homely, we enjoyed our stay.

AustraliaThe room was really dusty, all decor, the toilet and shelves were covered with thick amounts of dust. Pillows were worn out and needed replacing. We also were originally not provided with the room we booked. I paid extra for a room with two single beds but when we checked in it was a double bed with one side against the wall. I reached out to staff using the booking and after a little bit with no response I texted the emergency number provided in the lobby. When I got a response via booking I was told it wasn’t a problem that it was the wrong room and that one of us could sleep on the sofa. It was only because I said I wasn’t happy with this that we got moved to a room with two single beds. I didn’t hear from the emergency number for over 24 hours.
Location was about 10 mins walk from the metro. There was also a bus to Shinjuku station extremely close to save some walking. There was two 7/11 really close as well as other restaurants. It was quiet.

AustraliaNo microwave. Kettle is there but no Coffee cups. The pillows (if you could call them that) were lacking and should be updated. The spare pillows did not have covers and had stains so we didn’t use them.
Spacious for an apartment in Japan. Good location close to the train station. We walked into Shinjuku main area about a 2k walk. The apartment was clean and warm with a standing balcony. The beds (a mattress on a board) were 2 single. My son is 6ft and he was fine in his. Communication with hotel was fine although we never saw the desk manned. Umbrellas were available in the lobby.

United StatesThere was no staff on duty, no room service, no replacing towels or other items. It didn’t feel like a hotel but rather an airbnb. We stayed 5 nights and had 2 towels for the entire stay.
Location was good and the rooms were adequate.

United KingdomAlthough this hotel is in a great location for Shinjuku, to advertise as a ‘hotel’ felt misleading as there was never a reception or cleaning. It felt like an Airbnb rental and we were unable to do things such as luggage forwarding and safe storage here.

GermanyPros: We stayed in room 302. The apartment is relatively modern. Basic supplies are provided. Good temperature control options (heat and air). Shower and toilet separated. Enough space to open a few suitcases. Quiet street. Separate bedroom door. Elevator. Closet to hang some clothes. Decent value but a bit more on the expensive side. Cons: No hand soap in bathroom. Nowhere to put dishes while they dry. Freezer needs be cleaned (full of ice build up making it unusable). You have to take out your own garbage. Building entrance is not locked. No desk staff.

AustraliaThe pillows were very thin and uncomfortable and should be replaced. The additional pillows in the cupboard were in the same state and didn’t help.
Basic but comfortable and clean stay within walking distance of Shinjuku’s main strip and transport. A really great spot and perfect for our 4-night stay exploring Tokyo and the Shinjuku area specifically. Easy check in with keys retrieved from a lockbox and instructions with photos provided before arrival. Be sure to read the handbook under the TV - we realised at checkout we could’ve used a pocket wifi device that was available and had completely missed it.

CanadaLocation was ideal. Neighbourhood was quite with a good selection of walkable restaurants in the area. The train station was conveniently close and not a big crazy station but will connect you to any of the big hub stations. We found it was walkable to Kabukicho and Shinjuku Gyoen park and we enjoyed exploring by foot.
