How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence

To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.

This hotel is in the center of Gion, very convenient place and center of geisha. Walking distance to many attractions. The room is very elegant. The breakfast was quite nice, traditional Japanese food. The name of the room is like a poem. There are also plants outside of the windows. Would go back if I visit Kyoto again.

It’s a very quiet and cute place in Gion. Taka and his staff are so friendly and accommodating. They can also speak English very well. Breakfast was delicious. The rooms are exceptionally comfortable. We really enjoyed our stay.

My friend and I had a fantastic time staying here. The staff were very attentive, nice, friendly, and always willing to help. Room was medium size and the bathroom/bath area was wonderful. Would definitely stay again!

I have nothing I disliked particularly. I would just say that there was nothing that made the stay above and beyond outstanding.
The traditional Japanese breakfast was nice and classic although portions slightly small. The location of the Ryokan was fantastic - well within walking distance of everything in Gion. The area was quiet and safe.

Small detail - Did not have a western breakfast option for kids (even a fried egg or pancake would be acceptable) but there is a cafe next door serving breakfast pastries. Would be nice to have non dairy option for coffee.

The small boutique hotel is in a very beautiful Japanese style. Staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The location is outstanding. Breakfast was in traditional Japanese style. Excellent choice of food in a very nice breakfast room. Next time I travel to Kyoto I will schedule the trip to ensure to have a room in this hotel again.

Property was fine, but we had trouble finding it on Apple Maps, but google maps worked better.
Rooms were spacious and accommodating. Breakfast area was relaxing with a nice view.

This is a general comment about Gion not the property itself - Gion is a historical neighbourhood with small streets and on a mild hill so it is not very close to any train station - ~10-15 minutes walk from the closest - so if you are having a lot of luggage probably best get a taxi from the nearest station. Buses that come close are ~5 min away and are usually packed. Again - nothing related to the property itself - just a small traveler advice.
Great stay in Gion! Authentic ryokan feeling, great room size, location in Gion just a few meters from the main street but at a quiet small street. All in all - very good value for money! The personnel is helpful and good in English, got great recommendations for places to visit for food and etc. Our only regret is that we didn't stay here for our whole stay in Kyoto. Many of Kyoto's main places to visit are just a few hundred meters away. They offer traiditional breakfast on site which contains of fish and some other local things so it may not be to all westerner's liking but also a voucher to a local cafe for a western style breakfast so make sure to choose whatever you want. The pictures on the page in Booking - they really do not show properly the place - it is looking much better in reality - real recommendation to the owner - make a new photoshoot that really shows the quality of the place.

The property is located at prime location and is super clean. The hosts were very kind and helpful. The entire stay was very comfortable. Beds are very comfortable. The hot tub is perfect to relax . The breakfast is with fish. If you don’t like to have fish for breakfast, you can ask for a coupon and have European kind of breakfast at a cafe .

This place was absolutely phenomenal. From start to finish, it was an exceptional experience. The room was so comfortable, from the heated floors to the best bath I've ever experienced. Taku was absolutely fantastic. He helped us with reservations at a sushi restaurant and truly made our stay luxurious. It's in a prime location, and the traditional feel was magical. I cannot say enough good things about this place.
