Not an issue but just be aware that breakfast isn’t brought to your room. I assumed it was when asked what time we would like to have breakfast, but I realized they were mainly asking to ensure there was space and capacity for the guests. Great traditional breakfast regardless!

Sunday breakfast in adjacent restaurant was not great, no dinner offer in hotel, next-door hostel guesthouse quite noisy at night and early in the morning.

The small room downstairs lacked some sunlight, but that’s pretty much it. Everything was great!

Staff was honestly so professional and respectful. The big room was amazing! I love the bathroom as we’ll because I could take a nice bath to relax. Breakfast was delicious every time.

Traditional Japanese breakfast! I skipped it the second morning tho my husband attempted it both mornings. Be prepared also for fewer electrical outlets than a western hotel.

The location was excellent. In the Gion district and easy walk to many things. On a quaint and quiet street. Was a more immersive experience in a busy city. Room was beautiful and we had a door that opened to a small garden. Staff spoke English well so easy to communicate. Be prepared for a traditional Japanese breakfast. We really enjoyed our stay.

I really liked the bathroom; it was fantastic with its Japanese design. The breakfast was very delicious, and the hotel had a lot of greenery, which was truly pleasing to the eye.

Rooms are clean but staff should pay more attention in cleaning them, as there was a lot of dust on the floor, especially in some areas (meaning limited or no cleaning there) and a packet of sigarette left from previous guests was found behind table bed.

Very nice ryokan in Gion historical area, close to temples and other sightseeing sites, but at a walking distance to city center and shops - restaurants. Rooms are big (this is my second time here and enjoyed both rooms I've stayed at), and nice to stay in. Breakfast is served at ryokan (traditional japanese food only), but not every day. One out of 3 nights I has to have breakfast in a cafè 5 minutes from ryokan, where different food options were present. Staff is helpful and always available for needs.

The room was amazing! The Japanese breakfast was very nice but we opted to have most of our breakfasts at the cafe with the supplied voucher, which was also quite good. The location is excellent, very quiet, beautiful and full of points of interest and also within walking distance of big shopping centers. Very nice and helpful staff.

The property said they wouldn't be holding luggage as they were observing a holiday. The holiday wasn't actually the day of the national festival, but just the day the property chose to acknowledge it. This was a surprise and very inconvenient. I liked the breakfast, but I recognize that it may not be everyone's taste.

It's a beautiful property, it's quiet, it's relaxing. It's right in the heart of Gion, which is stunning. The breakfast was authentic and special.

Rooms are very comfortable, in the bath you have a bathtub that is really joyful. Staff was very nice as well. I enjoyed the hotels japenese style breakfast first day but on the second day me and my gf are kinda bored of eating fish on the breakfast so they gave us a coupon that covered our breakfast at the coffe 100 m away from the hotel. I can recommend. Location is also 8-10 minutes away from GION district.

Wonderful experience trying new dishes. Ryokan provided a Jimbei, a typical lounge outfit to wear to breakfast which added to the whole experience. Dining overlooked the garden. Bathroom was a spa. It is large and every toiletry needed was provided. Robes were soft and fluffy. Bedding was beautiful.

We absolutely loved staying at this Royken for our honeymoon! We stayed for 2 nights, which was perfect to explore Kyoto and take the most out of the room and the onsen. Taku and his staff were so wonderful, kind and very helpful. The room was spotlessly clean, and Taku made sure we knew everything about the room and the best spots to go explore near the Ryoken. Upon check-in, we realised we made a mistake with our booking through booking.com but Taku kindly fixed it for us. I would highly recommend anyone to stay here!!
