Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

ItalyAs a very minor point, there was some public restoration work going on preventing direct access to the structure at late hours. In the square they are busy working to restitute the monuments endangered by the earthquake to their pristine splendour.
The hotel is very conveniently situated on the border of the iconic Durbar Square. The personnel is always smiling and very helpful

United KingdomNeed a better system to inform the sightseeing Council guards that one is a temporary local resident and therefore not fair game for daily charge!
My 30 year old daughter and boyfriend loved their stay here as did I. My daughter's first return to Lalitpur since she was 2 1/2 years of age. I 've been visiting intermittently for half a life time and the Pahan Chhen is what this side of town has been waiting for. An authentically and sympathetically restored Newari townhouse hidden away in a traditional courtyard behind Durbar Square. Rooftop is perfect for the local atmosphere and panoramic views whilst the en suite bedrooms are of the highest spec by local standards. Hot water plentiful and beds comfortable. Nice on site bar and restaurant for those evenings when you just want to flop. And the staff live up to local hospitality standards...eben guiding me to an excellent barber! Congratulations on developing this Newari home from home.

SpainIt's not a problem for me but access to the rooms are through steep steps. Just saying. Buts is a given in Kathmandu basically.
Wow. I would have stayed my whole time in Nepal here... breakfast was very complete and ok for Gluten free and lactose free. I was working from the room for two days, with video calls and Wifi was great they arranged a taxi for me to go to Dhukithel for an affordable price (2800rp). Very centric, i absolutely adored Patan. And the rooftop...oh the rooftop and the dinner!! I had fresh fish and it was delicious.

PhilippinesI recently had the pleasure of staying at the Pahan Chhen in Kathmandu, and I must say, it exceeded my expectations in every way! From the moment I arrived, the staff were warm, welcoming, and attentive. The check-in process was seamless, and I was impressed by how they mix the modern design in a historic home in Durbar square. My room was spacious, clean, and comfortable, with a stunning view of Patan durbar square. The bed was incredibly comfortable I enjoyed a delicious breakfast in the morning. Overall, I would highly recommend the Pahan Chhen to anyone looking for a comfortable, convenient, and enjoyable stay in Kathmandu. I would definitely return here on my next visit!

RussiaSome repair works in the courtyard though it didn't bother us too much
We were travelling in a company of friends with kids. Our experience at this hotel was absolutely outstanding! The rooms are spacious, the beds are large and comfortable, and the atmosphere is refreshingly cool and undoubtly clean. The location is simply unbeatable—right on Patan Durbar Square, with all of Patan's incredible landmarks just a short walk away. Yet, despite being in the heart of the city, the hotel remains peaceful, as the windows open to a quiet inner courtyard. One of the true highlights is the stunning rooftop terrace, offering breathtaking city views and mesmerizing sunsets. The service was nothing short of exceptional—the staff went above and beyond to ensure our comfort. A special mention goes to the restaurant team on the terrace, where the waiter made our last evening truly memorable with his excellent service. A huge thank you to the management and staff for making our stay such a wonderful experience. We highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Kathmandu!
