Starting with a with a warm welcome to the hotel, Sonny's knowledge of the history of the hotel and surrounding area gave a glimpse back in time. The decor of the hotel is very traditional, warm and inviting. The breakfast was wonderful. It was a traditional Scottish breakfast served in a beautifully decorated warm, inviting dining room. The service was friendly and the food was excellent.

Set in Jedburgh and only 21 km from Melrose Abbey, Allerton House offers accommodation with garden views, free WiFi and free private parking. This 4-star guest house offers luggage storage space. Beautiful place, great location, fantastic hosts. Breakfast exceptional.

The welcoming Wheatsheaf provides peaceful accommodation and award-winning food. It is located near Berwick-upon-Tweed, Coldstream, Duns and Kelso. Very personable and friendly team. Long distance drive meant that I would be arriving late. Not a problem for the Wheatsheaf Inn, I received a phone call half-way through my journey to see how I was getting on. Rooms very clean, I had a great night sleep, bed was very comfy. The breakfast was 10/10 with lots of choices outside of your standard cooked breakfast.

Complete with a garden, Auld Skuil is set in Ashkirk, 22 km from Melrose Abbey and 33 km from Traquair House. Lovely quirky traditional building. Very clean. Lots of homely touches. Kids loved the book with lots of info about the history of the property and the town.

The Plough Inn Leitholm has a garden, terrace, a restaurant and bar in Coldstream. This 4-star inn offers free WiFi. Excellent home cooked food and a lovely welcome.

Set in Melrose, in a historic building, 44 km from Dalhousie Castle, Fauhope Country House is a guest house with a garden and shared lounge. This guest house provides accommodation with a patio. Wonderful place to stay near Melrose. Hosts are incredibly kind. The house is spacious, well decorated and comfortable. Superb breakfast. Definitely recommend to stay here
