The guesthouse is absolutely beautiful. It’s in a more remote location, so it’s very peaceful. The couple running たね are so very kind, and their cooking is exceptional. Breakfast was so delicious. We wish we spoke better Japanese so we could have talked more. They were such interesting people.

Wakka has mountain views, free WiFi and free private parking, situated in Minami Aso, 31 km from Egao Kenko Stadium Kumamoto. Beautiful place with fantastic scenery. Beds, including the futon beds, are comfortable and mini kitchen is well equipped. Love the bath tub Owners are very friendly and welcoming. They even sent a note ahead of our arrival with their contact number in case we needed help finding the place.

Located 1.8 km from Hosokawa Residence Gyobutei, Minshuku Hiroshimaya offers 2-star accommodation in Kumamoto and features a terrace. The location and owners make this homestay special. The latter is at the foot of a historic and important Buddhist shrine and resting place of Kato Kiyomasa, builder of the Kumamoto Castle, while the former are generations-old family of soba makers. While breakfast didn't come with soba, it was one of the best I've eaten in Japan. The space is comfortable, traditional and has everything you may need, including excellent views of the city.

Beautiful, distinctive lodging. Very well located. The host is exceptional — warm, welcoming, knowledgeable, extremely helpful. She’s wonderful, as is her hostel.

I had such a wonderful stay at this guesthouse in Aso. The host is incredibly kind and welcoming—it truly felt like coming home. The house itself is a beautiful traditional Japanese home, full of warmth and charm, and everything was spotless and comfortable. I instantly felt at peace here. If I had more time, I would have loved to stay longer. I will definitely come again and hope to stay at least a few weeks next time. This place has a special, calming energy. Thank you so much for such a memorable experience!

Featuring a shared lounge, ゲストハウス上町 is located in Oguni in the Kumamoto region, 36 km from Mount Aso and 40 km from Kinrinko Lake. Affordable alternative near the rather expensive onsen villages. Very helpful landlord. Basically it's a room in a house with 4 rooms, with shared bathroom/kitchen/lounge. But very well done if you can live with that.

Kikuchi Mirai Base - 菊池みらいベース is a recently renovated guest house in Kikuchi, where guests can make the most of its garden and shared lounge. The host is the kindest host anyone could ever ask for. He made my stay very comfortable. He didn’t hesitate to provide needs and he even drove me with my luggages to my next destination. I am very grateful and happy to have stayed at this accommodation.
