We loved our stay here! Our hosts were so friendly and welcoming. I have coeliac disease, and they went out of their way to make us a vegetarian and gluten-free breakfast which was absolutely delicious. We also enjoyed a welcome drink in the garden. The room was beautiful and comfortable, and shared bathroom facilities were nice and clean. Would recommend to anyone walking the Kumano Kodo and passing through Chikatsuyu.

簡易宿所 ふくろく is located in Shingu, less than 1 km from Kamikura Shrine, a 13-minute walk from Shingu Castle Ruins Park, as well as 1.4 km from Kumano Hayatama Taisha. Undoubtedly, this place was one of the best accommodations I have been. The place is spotless. Seiko is a Super Host. She was very helpful to my request. Getting out of the train station you can turn to the left and after crossing the railway it is a two-minutes walk, there is a mini supermarket just in front of the accommodation and a big supermarket 4 minutes up the main road. The Villa is so adorable, if you have time for a little stroll, you will enjoy it. I strongly recommend it.

Located in Shingu, 400 metres from Kamikura Shrine, 長徳寺宿坊 Temple Hotel has a garden, private parking and rooms with free WiFi access. The monk who runs the property was so helpful recommending local restaurants and giving advice and even gave us a lift to the station. There were free drinks including alcohol. The rooms are part of a temple. The hotel is very close to the main shrine and not far from the station so a great location. The place to stay in Shingu. Good value for money.

200 metres from Kumanokodo Nakahechi Museum of Art, 民宿 和合 Minshuku WAGO is a recently renovated property set in Tanabe and offers air-conditioned rooms with free WiFi and private parking. Super lovely host who very kindly helped return a key that we had accidentally kept from the night before in tanabe. His place was very clean, comfortable, and he provided a delicious breakfast and lunch for the kumano.

Set within 1.4 km of Nachi Beach and 1.1 km of Nachikatsuura Sports and Cultural Center, 自由自屋 offers rooms with air conditioning and a shared bathroom in Nachikatsuura. This property is basically right across the street from the train station. This was absolutely perfect for us. I think this must be a new facility because everything looked brand spanking new. There are only two rooms here which made it much more personal. The check in was a little odd, but it worked. The futons that you sleep on are the most comfortable we have had yet in Japan. In the United States, we are more accustomed to much softer sleeping surfaces. These were softer than most of the very stiff beds we have had in Japan.

The host was really cool and we could tell he is a very welcoming and warm-hearted soul. We appreciated the cleanliness and organization of the place. We really enjoyed the sauna and hot tub that felt brand new. It is also a convenient 10-minute walk to the beach! The host took some memorable pictures of us, which we also really appreciate. This is a special place ran by a genuine, down-to-earth host. Thank you G-Sun for creating a lovely Wakayama experience!

ゲストハウス三軒家, a property with a garden and a shared lounge, is set in Shirahama, less than 1 km from Ezura Beach, a 14-minute walk from Shirahama Art Museum, as well as 2.9 km from Kishu Museum of Art. This is a charming and relaxed guest house not far from the beach. Beautifully renovated and looked after. Our host Mizu spoke perfect English and helped with everything we needed: bicycles, dinner reservations and even booking a massage! Nice relaxed atmosphere in a family setting.
