Let me start with the outcome: I arrived planning to stay just one day, I ended up staying a full month.
There’s no other way I can put it: among all the hostels I’ve visited, Lagarto is truly unique.
From the moment I arrived, I was warmly welcomed by the amazing group of volunteers who immediately made me feel at home. I also felt that the strong sense of community spreads to all the guests, creating a super nice atmosphere.
In general if you enjoy socializing, this is the right place. There are plenty of shared spaces and daily activities (great free yoga classes; incredible evening jam sessions) that get people together. The food is delicious and also healthy, and yes there’s even a cozy tree house.

A big space, it's easy to find somewhere peaceful in the garden.
Very good location, easy to go everywhere, beach, supermarket, downtown.
Although they clean the kitchen almost everyday, it could be better.

Positives
+ Location is close to shops, restaurants, Pipa main beach, and Praia do Amor
+ The shower had good pressure
+ Spacious, tranquil balcony with hammock
Negatives
- The room wasn't ready at the check-in time with no warning, I just received a lukewarm apology and had to wait.
- This hostel has serious hygiene issues. I stayed in a private room, and it was poorly cleaned. Dust everywhere, squished mosquitoes across the walls, the pillows were mouldy, the mini fridge in the room looked like out of a horror movie, the pedestal fan had grime and yuck all over, the room wasn't cleaned once during my stay (incl. emptying bathroom bin)
- The fan situation is very bad: the built-in fans are incredibly noisy, and I didn't use mine cause sleeping would be impossible. If you’re a light sleeper, think twice.
- The first room I stayed in had bed bugs, I asked to be moved into another room which they did, but after that the management treated me like I was the issue ("We never had a case like this before"). The owner ignored me after I reported the issue. New guests were put in the same room on the same day (after I had changed rooms).
- The communal kitchen leaves a lot to be desired, most of the equipment is in very poor condition, the fridge is in terrible condition, no complimentary coffee served in the mornings, like in other hostels (that charge less)
- There was no good energy. I think the hostel has a lot of potential with the right management, but when I was there, I didn't feel there was a lot of good energy put into the place or guests. There were no organised events to help guests connect.
Budget travellers know that there is no better way to make the most of their trip than by staying at a hostel: save money for exploring during the day, and swap stories with fellow backpackers in the shared kitchen or bar in the evening. Dorm-style bedrooms with shared bathrooms are standard hostel fare, but private rooms are also available for those willing to pay a bit more.

Best hostel in Pipa and one of the best in Brazil as well for sure ! The volunteers are all amazing, different activities are proposed everyday and it’s a very lively place!!
You will for sure make friends there! The Swimmingpool and hammocks are nice to chill in. Every night, the is vegetarian dinner, cooked by chefs for 20reals. There is also evening Programm every day, to get to know people. (Yoga, meditation, dancing, art class…). Super nice staff. We had such a fun time, we will miss this place! Best hostel in Pipa!! (Ps you can feed monkey with bananas at the hostel if you see them at breakfast;)
Beautiful hostel, such a great house, so modern and clean, even with a pool. But the best part is the friendly group of volunteers that make you feel at home so quickly! Shoutout to my guy Capela and the rest of the crew. Definitely the best hostel in Pipa, I realised this after visiting some competing (dirtier) famous hostels that are well known in Pipa.
Most social hostel you will find. This is the place to meet new people from all over the world, different activities every night, yoga every morning, good dinners for only 20 reais, cheap drinks at night and everyone going out together. The stuff are so nice and helpful.
no worries was by far the best hostel i’ve been in Brazil. You get exactly what you see on the picture. the rooms, the kitchen and outside area are super clean and cozy. the location is perfect and super save. I always walked around alone and also during the night I always felt super save.
the staff is super friendly and I felt welcome from
the first second.
will definitely book there again when im the next time in Pipa.
Best hostel for meeting people. Amazing energy, amazing staff and volunteers, nice activities. You feel like home here and the people welcome you so lovely! 100% recommeded. Much love for this hostel
Great hostel. Generally Clean, with shared dorms eibg some of the biggest I've seen and complete with a balcony! Not too loud or busy but easy enough to make friends. Lots of areas to relax, interact and even has a pool.
Fans in rooms and plenty of storage. Fabulous location, very safe and helpful staff for the win!
