Presso l'Akaokan potrete rilassarvi nelle spaziose vasche termali pubbliche e visitare i villaggi storici di Shirakawa-gō e Gokayama, Patrimonio dell'Umanità dell'UNESCO, situati a 20 minuti di auto. In zona troverete l'architettura Ainokura Gassho. A vostra disposizione anche abiti Yukata giapponesi. La stazione ferroviaria JR Johana è raggiungibile in 30 minuti di auto. La connessione Wi-Fi gratuita è disponibile nelle aree comuni. Potrete scegliere di soggiornare in camere in stile giapponese con letti futon giapponesi o in camere con pavimenti in tatami (paglia intrecciata) e letti occidentali. Camere climatizzate con TV a schermo piatto, frigorifero e bagno interno. Vengono forniti asciugamani e set di cortesia. In loco troverete un negozio di souvenir dove acquistare regali locali e distributori automatici di bevande. La reception fornisce il servizio fotocopie. Al mattino vi attende una colazione giapponese a menù fisso, mentre per cena potrete gustare un pasto tradizionale a più portate. Tutti i pasti vengono serviti nella sala ristorazione. L'Akaokan Ryokan dista 5 minuti di navetta gratuita dal villaggio storico di Suganuma. La fermata dell'autobus Nishi-Akao è la fermata più vicina, situata accanto all'Akaokan Ryokan. Gli autobus turistici da Shirakawa-go alla stazione JR Takaoka partono 5 volte al giorno.
