First off, consider staying at least a few days. You will be sorry if you spend only one night here. The hotel is in a very cute village overlooking the Saentis range with a breathtaking view. Even better than the view is the restaurant. Great breakfast will be prepared for you in the morning. The restaurant in the hotel is one of the best in the region. The room we stayed is perfect, recently renovated, modern bathroom and with a killer view. Also, the sensitivity of the hosts to allergies has been very welcome. My wife suffers from celiac disease, and we were able to get fresh glutenfree bread as well as recommendations for dishes suitable for her throughout our stay. Very pleasant surprise.

We stayed 2 nights beginning of June. If you like traditional places, you should visit Waldgasthaus Lehmen. You would be surrounded by natural forest with a view on Appenzell Alps. One of the most common sound during the day is various bells on cow necks. We were lucky to see how Appenzell farmers bring their cows to the mountains. The farmers have very beautiful cloths! On Saturday we saw a group of farmers, who came in their traditional dresses to Lehmen restaurant and had a few hours of singing and enjoying food. The restaurant is very good, if you like Swiss food. You must be hiking in that region, otherwise food might be too heavy. I had pork steak, pork schnitzel and beef steak with noodles and mushrooms. All dishes were very tasty. You have to try local beer! And Lehmen whisky! Highly recommended! Very nice! Service is impeccable, fast and attentive. All personnel is very friendly. Breakfast is wonderful! I would prefer, if it started at 7 instead of 8… Our room 17 was great, soft pillows, comfy beds, bath, simple but cozy design. The hotel has a playground for kids. Parking is huge.

Even though the location is slightly off the beaten track there is easy access by a half hourly bus service. Handily situated for the chair lift to Selamatt. The room was a decent size and comfortable. The evening meals were good value and the menu although not large had sufficient choices. Breakfast was good but would have liked the option of some cold meats.
