Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

BelarusPricy for 2 nights :( May be there are similar places with good enough service and private onsens in Hakone with less price. BTW, regarding breakfast - there is a choice between traditional japanese and western-style: but even in western style there are a lot of fish \ parts from japanese-style food.
Really-really nice staff and personnel, big thanks to them! I have tried breakfast and dinner included option - really good experience. High quality food, lots of fish, sukiyaki, sashimi, great desserts. There is a choice between traditional japanese and western-style breakfast (not dinner). During dinner\breakfast there are some options which you can choose - 3-4 dishes from all (~ 10 in the course). Be careful, do not eat much before dinner \ breakfast :) - there are very much food. Location - not so far from Tokyo ~ 2 hours by train with transfers. Nice trip by train Hakone-Yumoto Station with audio "tour" during usual scheduled train. Nice views, Hakone open-air museum 20 min walk (must-have for visit). Near Gora station ( 5 min walk) - cable-railway to Owakudani and to lake Ashi. Room: great and big rooms, you can select yukata to wear, everything like water \ beer \ snacks \ tea \ others - free, available whole day at separate room near elevator (or inside your room). Onsen - I have tried onsen in the room - nice, bath is in open-air room (balcony). Water can be super-hot, be carefull, there is additional water tap with cold water. Private onsens are also good (big wood bath, big stone bath and bath with stones) - almost anytime one of them was free (beginning of November). Public onsen - has also sauna, but onsen size is similar to private onsen. Great garden near entrance with carps.

United StatesThe thick duvet comforters on the beds were too hot. Would have been nice to have a lighter blanket option.
Breakfast and dinner were good. Staff very attentive and friendly. Open air bath was big enough for two people. Good location close to train station.

United StatesThere really isn't anything we disliked, but if we had to pick one thing, it would be the shoe storage. We had to have our shoes stored away when not in use. We would have to turn in our room key everytime we wanted to get our shoes. It really is not a big deal at all. Just inconvenient when wanting a quick trip outside or if there were a line of people waiting on shoes.
Suiun is so awesome! My wife and I stayed 2 nights to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We are so glad we chose Suiun. Fantastic and friendly staff. Delicious Japanese breakfasts both mornings of our stay and they were different each morning. Can't beat the semi-open air bath on the room's deck. So relaxing to soak morning and night.

AustraliaWe stayed in rooms with a private onsen each. The hotel and rooms are beautifully furnished with tatami mats and plants and you are offered pyjamas and a yukata to wear at the hotel. The onsen was nice and relaxing. Breakfast was offered with our service, where we had a very generous Japanese meal. The staff were very kind and helpful, and the shuttle service back to Gora station came in handy in wet weather!

United StatesThere isn’t much to do outside the hotel, especially at night, but that’s Gora for you!
This is a spacious and lovely hotel in Gora, Hakone. The location is close to the beginning of the loop that goes from railway to cable car to boat. I believe I booked a smaller room, and it was incredibly spacious: like a small apartment. There was an entry hallway, a separate WC, a living room, a bedroom, a bathroom sink area, a shower area, and of course, the private onsen and deck. Tatami mats are all around and very comfortable and Japanese. Beautiful space. Beautiful lobby. Great staff. The amenities were wonderful. The snack area had a good selection. Free late night noodles served by the staff. Free snack area on each floor. Plenty of beer and alcohol so that you don’t have to go out to shop. So nice! Breakfast was wonderful.

This place was phenomenal. My husband and I loved the private open-air bath and the traditional lounge wear provided to all the guests. The secluded dining was amazing - from food presentation to service and quality. The room was spacious, quiet, and cozy, and the beds were comfortable. My husband especially loved the stamp book he purchased from the hotel, which included a stamp and personal poem. We would definitely visit again.

United KingdomFood - little bit below expectation quality-wise (especially on seafood menus). Could tell the ingredients were a bit processed/ de-frosted.
Great staff - super friendly, helpful, providing additional service (complimentary matcha making experience) Great bottomless drinks - draft beer, spirits & snacks all complimentary in the basement bar Great hot springs baths - 3 types of baths located in Japanese garden, private hinoki bath in each room Great room - very spacious, traditional Japanese room, super clean, great bed, complimentary toiletries, pajamas Food - good kaiseki course & breakfast, a great quantity of dishes provided (very filling)

CanadaThe hotel is a 10 minute walk from the nearest train station, but that walk is steep enough to be challenging if you have luggage with you. When you check out, they have a private shuttle to bring you down. Which is great, but I wished a had a shuttle in the other direction. Another thing is that a few of the amneties are timeboxed. The meiji milk is only available for 2 hours. Same for the matcha experience. Outside of that, the snack selection is very limited.
This hotel blew me away with its quality. The staff, food, rooms, onsens, views — all were truly exceptional. There are three private osens and 2 gendered ones. All free to use. A wonderful aspect of this hotel is that a lot of the rooms have their own insuite onsens. This means that I never needed to wait for a private onsen, and the gendered ones were basically private as well (I was usually alone in the mens).

CanadaThat hike up the mountain is no joke!! It's short, but Steep -- stairmaster train before you go!
This was the most incredible experience. I loved my stay -- the staff members were both kind and english-friendly, the meals were much more elaborate than I assumed, and I'm super glad the yukata rental is included in the stay. I had a great time, the bath was phenomenal. I wish I had gotten an extra night because there were some cute shops/cafes nearby I would have liked to try. But I'll be back!!! It was wonderful.

FranceWe spent two nights as a couple in this dream hotel in Hakone, and everything was absolutely perfect. The hotel is beautiful, with great attention to detail. We were lucky enough to stay in a room with a private onsen, which made the experience even more unique and relaxing. The staff was extremely welcoming and attentive, always taking care of us. The half-board option offered a choice between traditional Japanese or more Western dishes, allowing us to enjoy a variety of meals. The food was not only delicious but also very generous in portions. We highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a high-quality experience in Hakone, with impeccable service and an unforgettable setting.

Everything about our stay here was great. Our room was spacious with all the amenities needed and more, we had a gorgeous view to the mountains and the trees and comfortable beds, we also had a in room onsen in the balcony which was awesome because we could use it at any time. We got the package with dinner and breakfast and everything was delicious, just make sure you come up hungry because it is a lot! The staff were all very kind and helpful.

CanadaThis place is just magical, it is a beautiful ryokan style hotel with lovely gardens and private onsens. The location is perfect as it is very close to Gora Station, mind you it is an uphill walk. Close to many restaurants and a small grocery like store. Perfect place to relax and unwind. The eating area has lots of snacks and free drinks and they do free ramen at 10PM which is a nice treat.

United StatesI loved everything about this place. If I had to nitpick, I wish there was more snack variety in the bar area. I also wish the outdoor onsens had a cold tub but it's not something I would complain about.
The amenities were top notch. Each floor had a refreshment area with free drinks, snacks, and teabags. The rooms were large, clean, and comfortable. The in room onsen was relaxing, the public indoor onsen was fantastic, and the outdoor themed onsens were also great. Could not recommend Suiun more if you have plans to stay in Hakone.
