We loved our stay at this ryokan!
Every one in our group wants to share that Hotel Keigetsu answered our prayers after our long hike on the Nakasendo trail. They were very accommodating and just generally pleasant people. We started our stay by unfortunately missing a bus due to a translation error on our end and they essentially rescued us from Komaba with their hotel shuttle after dark. They also helped us reserve bus tickets out of Hirugami later. They are clearly experienced with helping guide their guests to and from their ryokan. If possible, I recommend trying to time your arrival closer to 4 pm in case you get lost like we did. Also maybe consider asking for transportation recommendations because they seem well versed in the travel aspect of their guests journey.
Dinner typically starts at 6 30pm at the latest. We arrived about an hour late on the shuttle when coming in but they still fed us after hours and we all showered and went to bed very happy. The dinner food was traditional Japanese with some beef and fish courses. Breakfast was similar with fish, egg and tofu courses. We ate in the banquet hall with private dividers. I don't know if they are able to accommodate diners in the rooms, but our party was too large for private in-room dining regardless. The banquet hall was plenty nice for us and our hostess was never far when we needed a drink etc. There were ample amount of courses, plenty of food to satisfy hungry hikers. The presentation of the food was delightful, the chef was masterful in assembling things and the food was very fresh.
Regarding the Onsen, I'm a shy American who has not yet worked up the courage for the public baths so for myself and my husband I booked the 4 room suite with a private bath (room 407), it has hot spring waters piped in to a large wooden tub. It was exactly what these sore hikers muscles needed.
Takimi Onsen Inn that only accepts one group per day features a hot spring bath and free private parking, and is within 5.7 miles of Otsumago and 5.8 miles of Kotoku-ji Temple.

We were hiking a part of the Old Nakasendo Trail and looking for a simple for a traditional ryokan experience and this was perfect. We had our own house over looking the mountains. Our house was over 200 years old. We were served a traditional dinner and breakfast, which was included fro the price and very reasonable. The onsen was small but lovely and was my favourite part. You can open the window and feel like you were outside. We drove there, which made it easy to get to and they had parking. There did not seem to be anything close by to really walk to.
Hotel Fuki no Mori is a 20-minute ride from JR Nagiso Train Station on the hotel’s free shuttle. Guests can enjoy walks at the garden or the scenic areas surrounding the hotel.

The outdoor onsen was insanely nice. Beautiful hotel on the inside and gorgeous dining room. The nicest place we stayed in Japan bar none.
Experience culture authentically with a stay at these traditional Japanese-style accommodations. Sleep on the floor (on a futon roll) in a room furnished with tatami flooring and sliding doors. Guests can often expect access to a communal bath, plus a complimentary Japanese garment called a yukata.
The hotel is atmospheric and calm. It is also very clean with tatami flooring throughout. Staff especially the gentleman at the from desk were pleasant and helpful.
Extremely friendly owner, helped me with directions for planning my day there. I ended up going to see the peach blossoms, hiking up a beautiful hill and finishing my day off at an onsen. So much interactivity from the owner, who would message me through the day when I got lost. Great location, and free parking available (tell them in advance). Host let me use the facilities which was a great help. Very clean and a nice house.
Very delicious meals
Staff are very friendly and helpful
Authentic Japanese traditional onsen hotel
Easy access to other sightseeing points
they also have a shuttle bus to/from Nagoya
Everything about this ryokan is exceptional. Elegant, personal and heartwarming. The service is probably the best I've experienced in Japan; it's personalised, helpful and friendly, without feeling overbearing. The food is absolutely amazing and the dining experience feels like you're being transported to a traditional, authentic Japan, which is a rare thing for modern ryokans to achieve. The onsen is also outstanding; the water quality, the facilities, the cleanliness, the atmosphere. Highly recommended!
Helpful staff and wonderful meals. Open air hot spring was available and it was very clean. Room has been recently renovated and was spacious and comfortable. The Achimura Stargazing Tour was an unforgettable experience.
Felt like staying in a museum, full of history. Pictures and Tokaido prints lined the walls. Very well maintained vintage inn with a Japanese garden. Breakfast and onsen was excellent.
I stayed 3 night and all was perfect, Emi’s family is so nice :)
The guesthouse is very comfortable, there is an onsen area near the Achi village and if you want to meet people, this place is perfect !
I hope I can come back here one day!
Top ryokan with beautiful shared and private onsen. The breakfast and meal were really good and large. It’s definitely worth paying extra for the meal. The town has so many beautiful walks and looks great in blossom season.
The service was beyond excellent. I cannot commend the staff enough for their kindness and commitment to making sure we were fully taken care of. In particular, the gentleman who speaks English, he made sure to always check in with us / follow through with whatever we needed. I also loved the fact that there are private onsen rooms, AND private indoor / outdoor onsens available for booking (since both of us have tattoos).
Attentive and friendly staff from point of arrival to check-in. Enjoyed the onsen water which felt silky smooth, read that it was a 9.7 pH alkaline. Nice walk along the river where the hotel is situated.
