I really enjoyed the traditional experience of Kamesei. Whilst we were only passing through at night, we enjoyed the friendly staff and hospitality provided. It was a great blend of a traditional stay with some creature comforts. They have a great kids playroom upstairs, and the staff were patient with our sometimes noisy and active children. We also paid for the premium dinner, which was certainly something different to what we're used to but a good experience nonetheless. I appreciated the spacious onsen and the fact that we were able to experience it, despite having tattoos. The staff were more than happy to provide advice and recommendations on the local area and places to visit, which we appreciated.

Very nice modern version of a Ryokan, but in a modern building. The Onsens were lovely and serene, despite being in a suburban location. Staff and food were excellent. This was the final night of our 28 day in Japan and an excellent way to end our trip.

great location overlooking the river. Rooftop onsen has great view. Buffet breakfast and dinner were great value. My first time in Japan, Ueda and it's surroundings are wonderful.

Matsuya Ryokan is located in a fantastic part of Nagano - peaceful, charming, and just a short walk from Zenko-ji Temple. The staff were very friendly and welcoming, and you can really feel the sense of history in the building.
Comfort was fairly basic, and the facilities are a bit worn down, but still functional and clean. It’s not luxury, but if you’re looking for a traditional stay with heart and heritage in a great location, this ryokan has its charm.

Everything. Gorgeous private onsens. Common room filled with juices, teas and coffee. Staff is excellent. Japanese breakfast was phenomenal. Best place I have stayed ever. If you are wondering if you should spend the money and can, you should.
Experience culture authentically with a stay at these traditional Japanese-style accommodations. Sleep on the floor (on a futon roll) in a room furnished with tatami flooring and sliding doors. Guests can often expect access to a communal bath, plus a complimentary Japanese garment called a yukata.

This route inn is situated in an area with traditional Japanese spas, and I was pleasantly surprised to smell Sulfur in the Onsen(public bath), something that you don't experience at other route inn hotels. The hotel has 3 separate parking lots nearby, and car users do not need to worry about parking their cars.
Breakfast was good and my room was quiet.
Fantastic Japanese half board menu in authentic Ryokan. We were spoilt with the attentive service and extent of traditional Japanese dishes provided by the hotel. Every meal felt like a feast.
Traditional Ryokan with good location. Have been to this place two times already, 24h Onsen access, spacious rooms, and I really recommend the japanese breakfast & Kaiseki style Dinner! Tyler is a great and very helpful host. See you next time :)
I loved the remote location and it offered exactly what I was looking for: peace and great surroundings! The owner is kind and I felt very at home! The town nearby has many great onsens.
Was an awesome stay! The Onsen bath was incredible, the room spacious and clean with everything I required, even plugs/cords for phone charging. Breakfast was amazing with an array of choices. They also have a small adjacent room where you can get free coffee and work on your computer. The only complaint was the location, but then I knew that before I went so not an issue. Easy access by car from Ueda station at a 30 minute drive or so. Oh an finally, the staff were lovely and extremely helpful. Thanks very much!
Lovely hosts, very friendly - spoke great English. We were in futon in a tatami room, it was cozy but we loved it. The hosts are kind of local celebrities and everyone knows them, so it was a lot of fun staying there. The hosts provided a space heater and there was a room heater as well, so we were well taken care of. The property is very clean as well.
Amazing dinner and breakfast. We had a private room for eating.
The room was also very comfortable. We had everything we needed there, including hygiene products and clothes (yukata, socks). There was an indoor and exterior onsen, which were very clean and relaxing.
The staff was very helpful and we were offered a ride to Togura Station after our stay. It is a bit expensive but worth it, I would like to return.
Loved that this beautiful inn was outside the city. Tyler picked/dropped us from Togura train station so it was convenient. It was nice to be able to recharge and relax here. The onsens were great. Only regret is we didn’t stay longer to explore more of the town. All the staff were very welcoming and helpful.
