The staff were lovely. The food was some of the best we've had so far in 2 weeks across Japan staying at similar priced Onsens. The baths were amazing. The tech in the Onsen uses your mobile phone for QR code access to the property, to contact staff and to see when the baths were available - it was very convenient.

one of the best ryokans we've ever stayed in. good value for money (we went off peak season). staff service was just superb. you have to remove your shoes at the entrance but no worries they provide slippers for you to move around and your shoes will be waiting at the steps when you leave. clogs available if you're venturing out nearby. free yukata for women- yukatas were beautiful. watched youtube on how to wear it. swiss hospitality lost to this ryokan's hospitality. everyone was so helpful, even wiped clean the wheels of our suitcases. rooms were huge. initially was apprehensive because only the smallest room was available and did not see any toilets in the pictures but thankfully the rooms (even the smallest one) were HUGE. onsen quite small but unlike other prefectures, we noticed ppl around here tend to just soak for 10 mins and leave immediately after a soak so turnover was quite fast. food was amazing!

It was such a wonderful experience staying in Nakamatsuya. Service was exceptional. Staff were super friendly and polite. Food was delicious and a lot of local ingredients. Hot spring was really nice overlooking the city from top floor. We enjoyed our stay and would love to come back in the future. If you want to experience true Japanese Onsen experience, don’t miss it!

Lovely attention to detail. The collection and drop off from the station. The effort to create be a vegan dinner and breakfast. The friendliness of all staff. The onsen is amazing loved the outdoor areas. The town is very small recommend booking half board stay you’ll struggle find food in evenings.

The onset and the kaiseki. Kaiseki was very exceptional. Overall customer service was top notch.

It's the wonderful Onsen Ryokan that is beautifully rearranged. And the hosts are super nice people too (the Seattle cookies were amazing too). The hot spring water quality is decent and the location is excellent too. The Kamiyamada Onsen is definitely one of the hidden gem of Shinshu.

This was a nice ryokan style hotel near Nagano with natural outdoor onsen. We stayed in a traditional Japanese style room which was great. We had dinner and breakfast included, and the food was amazing - only complaint is that there was way too much food! 😅 The location is a bit out of the way (around 40-60min drive from central Nagano) but the good price reflects this. We had a a hire car so it was fine for us. The fact that they offer dinner and breakfast was good since there aren’t many restaurants nearby.
